I welcome and invite you to Cracow.

You are warmly welcome and invited to Cracow, the cultural capital of Poland, one of the oldest and the most beautiful European cities.

This is my home city. I studied literature, history and history of art at the Jagiellonian University, which is one of the oldest universities in Europe. It was founded in 1364. Nicolaus Copernicus, who studied in the 15th century Collegium Maius and Karol Wojtyla, present Pope John Paul II , are its most prominent students.

The Market Square is the very heart of the city, designed in the 13th century is still the largest square in Europe and one of the most beautiful. There you can find a very impressive gothic St.Mary’s church with the well-known altar carved by Vit Stoss from Nueremberg. Besides, the 14th century Cloth Hall situated in the center of the Market Square encourages to visit famous souvenir shops. Around the Market Square you will easily notice a lot of beautiful and romantic restaurants, shops and pubs.

The Royal Castle placed on the Wawel Hill with the largest Renaissance courtyard in Europe was a residence of Polish kings. You would be delighted to see one of the most famous collections of Flemish tapestries from the 16th century.

In Cracow it is easy to discover a lot of interesting art galleries and museums among them The Czartoryskis Museum with Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “Lady with the Ermine” and the exquisite “Landscape with a Good Samaritan” by Rembrandt.

There is also an old Jewish Quarter in Kazimierz with two active synagogues. You can spend an unforgettable evening in one of Jewish restaurants listening to klezmerk music.

Since Cracow is a unique city with special charm and atmosphere a lot of Polish painters artists and poets live here or visit it. Among them two Nobel Prize winners in literature work here as well as the famous Polish movie director, the winner of the Oscar prize.

J.Slowacki Theatre
In the summer time there are organized numerous festivals to mention the Festival of Music in Old Cracow, the Opera Festival, The Jewish Culture Festival, The Short-Feature Film Festival, And others.

I am a city guide in Cracow since over ten years and I know every part of it. Having visited many countries and different continents I would have never changed Cracow for another place. I would be very happy to show you the beauty of the city which contributes to the European culture heritage.
